CHAIRLINES Frequently Asked Questions (with answers!)
Q1. How much does an ergonomic chair usually cost?
A1: Usually, for a chair that is fully adjustable (seat angle, back angle, seat depth and height, adjustable arms, and tilt) will cost between $500.00 and $700.00 but it depends on the company that manufactures the chair and the features that the customer chooses to include in the chair. A more expensive chair does not necessarily mean that it is a better chair. Choosing a chair is highly based on individual need and circumstances.
Q2. What makes a chair ergonomic?
A2: An ergonomic chair is a chair that is fully adjustable. At CHAIRLINES, the chairs are ergonomic because the back angle and seat angle can be adjusted indpendent of each other. Also, the seat depth can be adjusted to allow for users with different leg lengths to maintain an ergonomically correct seating position in combination with the seat angle and height adjustment, back angle and height adjustment, adjustable arms and tilt features.
Q3. What should I look for when choosing/sitting in a chair?
A2: When choosing a chair it is best to come into our Vancouver showroom and actually try out several different styles of chairs. When sitting in a chair make note of the following:
- Does your back naturally fit into the curvature of the backrest? (without straining to make yourself 'fit')
- Do you feel as though the natural curves of your back are being supported by the curvature of the backrest, if not then the height of the backrest should be raised or lowered to obtain proper lumbar support?
- Does the edge of the seat (called the 'waterfall') touch the edge of your calves, if so the seat is too large or the seat depth needs to be adjusted.
- Are your arms at approximately 90 degrees when resting on the armrests? Are your knees and hips bent at approximately 90 degrees? If not, then the height adjustments need to be altered.
Q4. Is there a chair for specific body injuries or ailments?
A4: No. There are no chairs made to solve specific body ailments or suffererings due to work or accident related injuries. The best solution is to try to sit in an ergonomically correct position while working (see Question 3) in a chair that fits your body type and needs.
Q5. What is the warranty on CHAIRLINES chairs?
A5: We offer a 10 year warranty on our chairs which means that if you keep your reciept we will service chairs bought from CHAIRLINES for up to 10 years from the date of purchase. Specific manfuacturer's will have different warranties such as fabric, arms and mechanisms. Fabric and arm cap warranties are usually about 2 years while most mechanisms have a 10 year warranty.
Q6. What is the benefit of a headrest? What is the benefit of a highback chair?
A6: Headrests or neckrests can be beneficial if the user of the chair feels that they need extra neck support. They are usually used when the user is on the phone, taking a break from work or engaged in conversation. Typically headrests are not used while typing/mousing as they require the user to be in a more vertical position however, it is up to the user to determine support needs.
The benefits of a highback chair vs. a low or medium back chair is very similar to having a neck or head support. Some taller users may find that a highback chair provides a fuller support for taller torsos while others prefer a shorter back height. It is a personal preferece that should be made when trying out chairs in our showroom.
Q7. What are the benefits of using a keyboard tray and mechanism?
A7: It allows the keyboard and mouse to be in a more comfortable and ergonomic position. People who use keyboard trays and mechanisms are able to bring the keyboard towards their torso which eliminates strain and injury caused by over-extension. Using a keyboard at the proper height allows the user to keep wrists and forearms at a straight angle preventing common ailments such as carpel tunnel syndrome or tendonitis.
